EL PASO - Canutillo Independent School District is moving forward with plans to build a $21 million combination school. The 146,977-sf school will be built at Paseo del Norte Dr. and Northern Pass Dr. and will combine pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Construction is scheduled to start in December with completion set for August 2014.
The school will include 20 elementary classrooms, 12 middle school classrooms, two science labs, a choir room, a band and orchestra room, a library, a weight room and two computer rooms. In addition, the school will have a multipurpose room with a stage, basketball court, and competition gymnasium.
Since 2007, the district in West El Paso, near Helen of Troy, has seen a steady increase of about 100 students per year. Renovations to existing school totaling $19.2 million will include the construction of additional classroom wings, expanding classroom sizes, and adding fine-arts program spaces.
