El Paso - The first phase of development at the $777 million, 293-acre Montecillo urban village is set to open. Residents are set to move into The Venue at Montecillo, a smart-growth style, mixed-use apartment complex along N. Mesa St.

The complex includes one- and two-bedroom units ranging from 596 to 1,218 sf. Construction was estimated at $17.3 million, according to state filings.

Next, construction is set to start on an active senior living community called The Retreat at Monticello. Units will include one to three bedrooms, and range from 610 to 1,066 sf.

Rents are expected to start at $730. The senior community will be located on W. Castellano Dr. behind The Venue.

The Venue includes 16,000 sf of retail space and already has tenants lined up. A 11,000-sf retail center, called T.I.M.E., is set to break ground in July.

Montecillo is a project of EPT Land Communities and when complete will have 2,500 apartments and 500 homes and townhomes, mixed with schools, retail, offices and 80 acres of open space.
