Fort Bliss Beaumont Medical Center gets funding
Dated: August 24 2012
FORT BLISS - Fort Bliss has received a $946 million congressional allocation towards construction of the new $1 billion Beaumont Army Medical Center on a 270-acre site at Loop 375 and Spur 601.
The 135-bed, four-building complex will include a seven-story hospital, two six-story buildings with 30 specialty clinics and a four-story administration building.
More than $43 million of the $946 million construction cost has already been contracted for roads, utilities, a water tower, and other infrastructure for the site.
The bid process for contractors is expected to begin next week with construction expected to begin next spring. A completion date of 2016 is scheduled.
The project will be one of the largest single construction projects on Fort Bliss, and comes on the heels of a recently completed $4.9 billion expansion.
Also at Fort Bliss, El Paso Community College plans to build a campus next to the new medical center. The institution already has five campuses in El Paso and is currently looking at 70 acres next to the Beaumont Army Medical Center.
