FORT BLISS - A new $15.1 million indoor aquatics center at 20733 Constitution will double the number of swimming pools at Fort Bliss.

The center is being built across from the Soto Physical Fitness Center and in the Town Center section of East Bliss. It is also near the new Soldier Activity Center that just opened, as reported August 2012.

The new aquatics center will contain three pools — an Olympic-size pool, a recreational pool and a diving tank. The three pools will hold just under 1 million gallons of water. Fort Bliss has three existing swimming pools — two on West Bliss and a new 4,000-sf recreational, outdoor pool at the Soldier Activity Center.

Ground broke on the project in January 2012. Construction is about 35 percent complete and should be completed by January 2013 with a scheduled March 2013 opening.
