Although most people believe the Housing Market comes to a halt during the Holidays I have found that not to to be the case. Many serious home buyers are shopping the market during the winter hoping to treat themselves to the ultimate holiday present... a new home. In fact you probably know a few people who have bought a house this holiday season, and you are probably stumped on what to get the new homeowner.  You may be thinking they need something more practical for their new experience and that a gift card to their favorite clothing store might not be the way to go. So here are a few gift ideas for the person in your life with a new address (and new needs) this holiday season.

Potted Herb Plant

Get your new homeowner a mixture of herbs, such as chives, basil and cilantro. It’s the gift that will keep on giving all year round. This is an especially good gift If the person on your list loves cooking or plants (or both!), a potted herb plant is perfect.

Food

Snacks or fresh coffee will keep your loved one’s spirits (and energy) high during their move. A homemade dish is always appreciated, but if you don’t have time to cook,  takeout from a favorite restaurant will still be much appreciated.

Home or Local Magazine Subscription

If they have just relocated to a new city, gift a subscription to a local magazine will come in handy when the new homeowner want to learn about the local hot spots, new restaurants to enjoy or bars. It will also give ideas for cool things to do in the area, when you come for a visit.

Tools

Image titleTools are a great gift for anyone who just bought home. With so many different tools out there, you may have a hard time deciding which tools are the best ones to gift for your loved one. You really can't go wrong, but here is a list of a few “starter tools” :

  • Adjustable wrench

  • Hammer

  • Screwdrivers

  • Cordless drill

  • Tape measure

  • Allen wrench set

  • Level (laser)

  • Flashlights

Welcome MatImage title

Nothing says HOME like a welcome mat at your new front doorstep. It also keeps people from tracking dirt inside their new home. Way to help protect their investment and put a smile on their face when they come home.

And Finally … Probably the Best Gift EVER... Offer Some HelpImage title

If you have ever  moved, even once, you know how busy and hectic it can be. Instead of waiting for them to ask for help, offer some. Help with home-related tasks, rearranging furniture, unpacking dishes or meeting a furniture delivery service or contractor when they can't be there. Or something as simple as walking  the dog or entertaining the kids for a couple of hours would be a fantastic gift for someone who is short on time and energy from getting settled into a new place.
