52 years ago on September 26, 1960 approximately 70 million U.S. viewers saw the first-ever televised presidential debate. The first opportunity for voters to hear and see their candidates: Senator John Kennedy of Massachusetts and Vice President Richard Nixon. The televised debate had a significant impact on viewers. More than half of all voters reported that the televised debates had influenced their opinion.
