EL PASO - Socorro ISD is now the second largest school district in El Paso. The district has 45,000 registered students for the fall semester, more than Ysleta ISD's latest enrollment figures of 43,500.

As a result of the rapid growth in the area, the school district has taken on several projects.

Swamp coolers were replaced with refrigerated air at six elementary schools and refrigerated air will be installed at the remaining six elementary schools next year. Cost for the replacement for refrigerated air will total $56 million by 2013.
