Teach Every Kid How To Ride A Bike

I came across an interesting article from the Atlantic City Lab "Why D.C. Wants to teach every kid how to ride a bike", where the goal in Washington is to teach every second grader in the city's school system how to ride a bike. According to the article, the director of the health and safety education at the District of Columbia Public schools, believes this will not only help promote independence but is also a great way to get to school, to see the neighborhood and a great way to exercise. So how does this work? The plan is to rotate the bicycles around the schools.  By the end of the school year, every second grader will know how to ride a bike.

This got me thinking.  El Paso is avid in building bicycle routes, trails and lanes.  Just a few days ago, they announced their new bicycle share program downtown.  Could something like this work in El Paso? I sure do hope so.  It would be nice to see children riding their bicycle to school.
